Contemporary, impressionistic paintings of
Maine and her people
As I See It
'Seeing
is believing' is an old adage, but I prefer to think
that believing is seeing. I am a person of faith who
chooses to believe in things that cannot be seen, but
nevertheless are real. My work and purpose is to
express the spiritual side of life that we call
understanding. It takes understanding to be an
artist- an understanding of one's self as well as the
world in both the natural and spiritual sense. This
understanding, also known as knowledge, is based upon
one's observation skills and sensitivity of spirit.
The coupling of these two elements is, in my opinion,
the key that unlocks the door of creativity. My
experience as an artist has been built upon the
successful application of these elements along with a
discipline and dedication to perfecting my talents. I
set high standards for myself and create challenges
for my artistic abilities, challenges that others
sometimes find surprising. I believe being an artist
is both a privilege and responsibility. I also
believe that the role of a true artist is that of a
visionary. Since each of my paintings is a reflection
of the life that I experience, I feel my work is a
ministry in helping others see what they cannot see
or see what they are unable to express.
